I am going to run through for you a couple of tactics to help you play zerg to good level!
They can be a difficult race to get used to as their structure and way of thinking is slightly different to the other races.
The main strength of the zerg is attacking quickly as they can attack faster than any other race in the game. 6 Zerglings can be produced very fast, four even faster.
Speed & Defence
For the reason that the zergs strength lies in speed you can usually harass the enemy to try and stop them from attacking you early on. Other races can build on top of their ramp at the start of the game.
Because zerg can not build on their ramp they need to be very good with their defence.

However there is a paradox here as defending with zerg is not usually the best route, you want to be aggressive and keep your enemy at bay. With the Zerg attack is definitely the best form of defence.
Here are some of my top tips for playing Zerg…
- Build Plenty of Drones
- Try to harass constantly
- Use roaches they are very strong
- Use the queens larvae ability all the time
- Be tactical in your engagement
Zerg vs The others
Playing against the other very strong tech races like protoss and terran can be challenging. Try to make sure you don’t let them tech up too much and keep your economy going.
Using mutalisks early on can be devastating and potentially game ending when used properly.
You can use banelings to burst through the front ramps if you can not get in to harass. Banelings also work very well against terran infantry as generally terran will use a lot of infantry. Try to use banelings when possible as they are difficult to counter.
Mix it up
Using a mixture of hydralisks and mutalisks can be very difficult to counter. Mutalisks are very strong and should be used to raid and support your main force. They could even be your main force.
I try to use as many of my resources as possible! So whenever you can, always try to grab an expansion because they are the only places you can build from. You will need to make sure you got enough against the likes of protoss and terran.
You can try some interesting double hatchery techniques which help to boost your economy early on.

One of the most important things to remember when playing zerg is to remember to build drones, if you build 3 or 4 buildings with your drones then your economy quickly gets weakened.
Keep Replenished
You need to remember to replenish your drone count whenever possible.
Too many people will build too many units from their hatchery and neglect their drones.
