This post is going to run through some of the excellent micro techniques and tips you can easily and quickly adopt into your current way of playing starcraft 2.
Before we look at the advanced tips and tricks I am going to run through a couple of basic micro techniques for terran, some of these can translate across to any strategy game.
Terran Micro Basics
- Only fight if you are going to win.
- Fight with an advantage, for example high ground or stealthed.
- Try to make your opponent think they have the upper hand (Medivacs with marines in, but with marauders below to make it look like u are just using them for healing, then pop the marines out and win the battle).
- Always be aggressive (this doesn’t always mean fighting the enemys units).
- Pick off small groups to lessen the enemys army.
Ok those are my tips for basic terran micro, the important thing to remember is to win every little fight, so if you try to attack and beat them, make sure they do not have units queueing which will give them the upper hand
Terran Advanced Micro Techniques3 Man Reaper Rush
The way this technique works is to set your 3 reapers to a control group CTRL + 1, now you want to imagine you are trying to be as annoying as possible, jump up their cliff to their bases high ground.
Run to their SCVs and destroy as many as possible, the important point of this technique is to never let your reapers recieve one point of damage, this is the target but not always the achieved goal.
This is a pure raiding tactic, run in and out quickly avoiding all forms of damage, use different entrances in the cliff to be free from fire, if you know one cliff is better than the others, use the others first then this will give them a point to defend. Move around their base and used the prefered cliff.
Medivac Micro
Medivacs have a huge amount going for them, using your marines and marauders setup control groups and then launch your attack.
If you marines and marauders are taking heavy fire then load them back into the medivacs quickly and fly to safetey, it helps to have a raven with you dropping point defense drones as well to keep the medivacs safe.Siege Tank Defense
Setup your supply depots and other buildings at your ramp, deploy your siege tanks near the entrance of your ramp along with missile turrets.
This will help them be defended from air units which are their main weakness, then let the enemy try to attack your base you can very quickly destroy a lot of units with their splash damage, this is an excellent strategy for terran macro lovers.
