There has been a huge buzz around if we can play offline or not when playing Starcraft 2, because of the way Blizzard are introducing a lot of the battle.net features.
It has now come to light that the priority for playing is being logged into battle.net and playing with friends or playing the campaign.
The main drawback with this is that if you want to have a game of Starcraft 2 then you will need to be logged in.

This requires a permanent internet connect. At the present almost every one with an internet connection has a reliable permanent connection, but what if you wanted to play on your gaming laptop?
Well the buzz started because people don’t want to play offline all the time, but they want the option to be able to play offline. This option would allow them to practice strategies quickly by repeating build orders over and over ago quickly with less of a load time. This would also allow people to disappear for a while from their friends if they just wish to immerse them selves with the starcraft 2 game play.
All very interesting, but how can we actually play offline?
Starcraft 2 How To Play Offline : Option 1 – Play As a Guest.
- First of all you will need the game already installed and working.
- Then load up starcraft 2 (Optional: Watch the amazing intro trailer).
- Then to the right hand side (Currently) you will have play as guest, click that.

Playing as a guest is great if you have borrowed some one elses CDs to have a go on their starcraft 2, even though it is against the TOS to share battle.net accounts!
The only problem with this, is that you don’t really get to play the game. You get to watch replays and that is about it, watching replays can be great fun and this will allow you to enjoy a little part of starcraft 2.
Starcraft 2 How To Play Offline : Option 2 – Play Offline
- You need to install the game, and start starcraft 2 once to validate the login details for 30 days.
- You can then login and play offline when there is no internet connection available.
- You will need to re-log in before 30 days are up.
Playing offline can be an excellent alternative when you are not able to get hold of an internet connection.
This will let you play single player + versus AI. The only problem with playing offline is that the achievements and friends lists will not work.
This means if you complete a really difficult mission or get an amazing achievement from playing AI then it will not be recorded into your online profile.
As you can see Blizzard have given you options for playing offline, whilst also allowing you to play the game for 30 days. This ensures that the login is not being shared, this is a great idea for protecting their game from being pirated.
