Starcraft 2 How To
Play Protoss

Hey Jim Here Again…

Alright lets get down to some protoss techniques and methods in this how to play protoss article. I am sure you are going to enjoy it whilst learning a lot of excellent tips and tricks along the way.

First of lets start by looking at the strengths of Protoss. Their Colossus can burn through light units very easily. This allows them to counter a BIO army of Terran very well.

They also have excellent high end tech like the carriers and mother ship. The Protoss have very tough melee fighters to begin with so they can defend their base very well if done correctly

The weakness in Protoss can sometimes be speed, although Zealots can be produced very quickly due to chrono boost. The Protoss compared to Terran and Zerg can not produce a big army quite as quickly.

Here are my top tips for Protoss

- Constantly Build Drones
- Harass their Mineral Line
- Keep them contained
- Defend your mineral line with one or two photon cannons
- Watch out for the Terran Bio Army, counter with Colossus

Those are my top tips for playing Protoss, although they seem obvious they can be overlooked frequently. The most important thing to remember when playing protoss is to keep your enemy on the back foot and try to take the advantage when teching up. When teched up Protoss are very difficult to counter.

Work with your team mates effectively and Protoss are difficult to contend with when teamed up with Marines and Marauders stood behind the Zealot Meat Shield.

Try starting off with a 2 gate build and transition into immortals or colossus. Using your stalkers and Zealots as a sort of shield. This technique will allow your Colossus to be more devastating whilst not being vulnerable. The best anti-colossus unit is probably Vikings, so make sure you keep stalkers near by to keep them at bay.

Always remember to look at how the enemy is playing and react to them. If you do not react when playing Protoss it can be very difficult to defeat a load of Mutalisks with Immortals and Colossus. Remember that Stalkers are great but they can find it difficult to keep up with Mutalisks or Banshees.

So get some Phoenix out to deal with the air units if they are harassing.

Harass with your Phoenix by floating their units in the air and destroying them with other Phoenix, this helps because the Phoenix are so fast and difficult to counter.
