The Starcraft 2 Ladder and Starcraft 2 Leagues system is a truly great system that you will need to understand in order get the most out of the game.
Overall the SC2 system is progressive, fair, and pretty consistent. It is based purely on Wins or Loses and not in match performance of things like Action Per Minute or Build Orders.
When you begin you will enter the Starcraft 2 Leagues by playing 5 Placements matches against a variety of different skilled opponents.
Based on these you will enter one of the following leagues (except Diamond) and can then work your way up from there.

Let’s take a look at the Leagues…
Diamond – The Diamond league is the Diamond standard. Funnily enough! It’s the top division where only the best Players make it. Only by following the guide below will you make it here!
Platinum – Platinum is a very good standard and to stay here you’ll need a high level of all around play. You would also probably developed and be able to apply your own standard of play by now with some ease.
Gold – This is a good standard and now good strategy and tactics will be need in order to climb up. You will probably have your own style of play preference, whether it’s rushing or building from the back.
Silver – A good league where you just need to build on some of the abilities you’ve got to head upwards. This should allow you to develop some much needed for the gold and Platinum leagues.
Bronze – This is a common starting league, especially if you’ve only just got the game. This should be a fun league where serious players pass through to more challenges ahead!
Copper – Is the lowest league where the only way is up! Don’t be disheartened if you find yourself here as with a few tips and tricks you’ll be heading up in no time.
How are the leagues are organized
Each league is organized into divisions of about one hundred players. However the divisions aren’t a reflection of skill or playing level, more a way to organize the leagues. So whether you’re in Division 1 or 30 it really makes no difference.
